Miss Gillooly will be the soloist, and the Presbyterian Choir will render two numbers, supplementary to the Band programme. A collection will be taken up for the fund for the wireless at the Mental Hospital.

On Thursday evening a concert of very high talent will be given by the pupils of the Convent School. The items sot down should prove very interesting and enjoyable. One item especially is sure to evoke much interest and amusement and that is the Boys Band. This talented combination, is worth hearing, so patrons come along and see and hear for yourselves.

The Totnra Flat Public Hall was destroyed by fire early on Thursday morning. The hall had been used f:r a euchre tournament, and when left appeared to he all safe. The building, which was owned bv Mr Hiram Barnes, was insured in tbe Yorkshire Office for £2OO.

At the Magistrate’s Court, Greymouth yesterday, charged with wounding Klaus Robert Xordberg with a shotgun at To Kinga on October 8, Xeils Mortensen appeared on remand before Mr AY. Meldrum, S.M. Accused. who is over 70 years of age. walked with the aid of two sticks. Senior-Sergeant Roach, in asking for a further remand of three months stated that Xordberg, although out of danger, would not be fit to appear in Court for three or four months. In three months’ time it was hoped to fix a definite date for the hearing of the charge. Mr J. AA r . Hannan, who appeared for accused, said he had no objection to the proposed remand. He understood, however, that the condition previously imposed that accused remain at Greymoutli, was no longer necessary. iSenior-Sergeant Roach agreed, and the S.M. remanded accused until the first sitting of the Court in January next. Bail was renewed in self of £IOO, and two sureties of £IOO each.

An unusual accident occurred in Charles Street, Kainpoi, on Saturday afternoon when Mr Albert Cliinncry, < f Marshland, who was cycling along the road, collided with the rear of a stationary car. Mr Chinnory’s head penetrated the hack glass panel of the ear, and he received severe cuts on the face and right hand, each of which necessitated several stitches.

Mr ,J. AY. Boynton, S.M. at Auckland, who is at present On leave from the Department of Justice for health, reasons, is still confined to his home for medical treatment. Recently Air Boynton’s condition showed some improvement, hut it is still necessary that lie should have complete rest from his duties until the period for which he was granted leave expires.

At the annual meeting of the Westland Competitions Society to-night, the shield won hv All Saints’ Church Choir in the Choir Competition, will be presented to the representative of the Choir. A serious accident bofel a hoy named Jack Robertson, son of Air A. S. Robertson, Balmorston St., Greymouth, while he was cycling on Sunday evening in Winnie .Street, adjacent to an open drain overgrown with grass. Tn moving to the edge to let another cyclist past, his machine went into the drain, the rider being thrown over the drain and striking the ground face foremost. He .sustained a slight skull fracture and painful facial injuries, having to be taken to the Hospital, where lie is making favourable progress though his injury is serious.

After a long illness, one of tlie bestknown Canterbury manufacturers, Mr AA r . ,T. .Tonkin, died at the Christchurch Hospital -on Saturday mornin}?. at the ago of fifty-eight, years. The late Air Jenkin was very well known in the City, and for many years had been actively engaged in advancing the welfare of the secondary industries in the province and tho Dominion generally. For several years ho was president of the Industrial Association, forerunner of tho Canterbury Manufacturers’ Association. Mr Jenkin was born in Greymouth, and educated in Christchurch. For many years lie was connected with the Canterbury Wireworking Company, of which he was manager. He was a member of the Canterbury Progress League.
