Stevenson, riding a motor cycle, collided this morning with a live-ton motor lorry, ((lining ill the opposite direction, driven by Bn minty lie, a , contractor, who was turning into a side street. A middle-aged man named Stanley Forbes, a resident of Otakiri. was run over by a motor car last evening at Otakiri, receiving severe injuries to his chest and bead. Forties was walking along the road when the car came out from the Taraworn Dairy Factory. For some time he was pinned under the car. AA lieu extricated lie was brought to AVliakatano Hospital, where he lies in a serious condition.

N.Z. MEAT BOARD. WELLINGTON, Oct. 14. The Full Court was engaged this afternoon in bearing an originating summons under the Declaratory Judgments Act, 1908, in which the N.Z. Meat Producers’ Board is the plaintiff. and the Attorney-General and the Controller and Auditor-General lire ihe defendants.

The questions for tbe determination of ibe Court are:—(l) Whether tile expenditure by the plaintiff Board of funds of the Board in the acquisition of land in London or elsewhere, for tlie purpose of tbe erection of meat stores thereon, and in tbe erection of such' stores, is a lawful expenditure by tbe plaintiff Board ol tbe funds ol the Board.

c2) Whether, if the plaintiff Board lias such power, it lias also the power to mortgage or charge the land acquired and all or any of plnintill Board’s other assets. (,T> Generallly, what are tbe powers of tbe plaintiff Board in regard to the purchase of lands and buildings in London, or elsewhere, for tbe purposes of the Board. VICTIM OF MONEYLENDERS. DUNEDIN, Oct. 14

An extraordinarily complicated position was revealed at a meeting of creditors of George Thomas Swann, who. in February last was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for falsa pretences, tbe Crown Prosecutor then stating that twenty thousand pounds was involved.

The bankrupt was present by arrangement with tbe Governor of Papa-

on Prison, and made a statement of extensive machinery deals. One creditor, a registered financier, related how he had refused to lend without security. Later the bankrupt came to him for an advance, stating he was in desperate straits, owing to the demands of rapacious amateur money lenders. This financial agent expressed the opinion that if all interested were asked to give an account of their transactions it would serve a better purpose than badgering Swann. Bankrupt, in further explanation, said some people did well from his transactions, and his counsel stated that he was apparently dealing with 72 people at the finish, with possibly another 72 earlier, who got their money back. - The Assignee: Someone must have been making a really good tiling from these deals. Counsel stated that on one occasion bankrupt gave a profit ol £lO5 for a loan of £6OO for .a lew days. In adjourning the meeting, t Assignee stated that it might be possible to get information hy calling on the people concerned in the transactions to furnish a statement. INJURIES PROVE FATAL. AYANGaNUI, Oct. 15. Afaurice Armstrong, who was riding on the motor cycle that collided with a horse at Putiki while on the way to a dance at Kaitoke on 'lhtirsday evening died at the hospital this morning. The' young lady riding on the hack of the nun bine escaped injury.
