(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.). AUSTRALIAN FORCES. CANBERRA, Oct. 14. The annual report of the InspectorGeneral of the Defence Forces of Australia was tabled in the .Federal House of Representatives to-day. It expresses regret that sufficient provision has not been made for a natural and reasonable development of the Commonwealth’s land defence. The report continues: “The military organisation is confronted with the ever-increasing cost, making larger appropriations necessary, but, instead of these being provided, the Department has been confronted with progressive annual reductions, and its activities have consequently been restricted to less than bare essentials.”
RAKOVSKY RECALLED. MOSCOW. Oct. 14. The full text of the Soviet reply to Franco declares that, while the Soviet Union does not deny France’s right to demand the recall of the representative of a foreign state, it considers that such a demand should be well founded, especially when referring to an Ambassador who, for two years, has most successfully conducted negotiations in the interests of both states. The Soviet Union Government disagrees with the arguments. M. Dougalovski, who suocoeds <M. Rakovsk.v as Soviet representative in France, was'an electrical engineer, who was deported, to Siberia on account of bis politics, but who escaped from there in 1908.
