SHOOTING OF GAMEKEEPER. LONDON, Oct. 12. “I heard a shout, ‘Hands up,’ and I tried to escape. Someone called: ‘Shoot Bill!’ Then I felt a pain in the thigh. The shock made me pull my trigger, and simultaneously a charge from the other man’s gun hit my sljioulder and my face. I then went home and had my wounds dressed.” The above is the accused’s statement that was read in the Court when Enoch Dix was charged with the murder of the gamekeeper, AA alker, on a peer’s estate at Bristol LONDON, Oct. 13. ’ Obituary.—The novelist, William Le Quex; and Knocke, of Belgium, after a lengthy illness.
