WAITAHA DAIRY FACTORY

RE-OPEN IN G PROCEEDINGS. Tlie valley of Waitaha was the scene of great enthusiasm at the re-opening of the cheese factory on Friday, Oct. 7th. after being closed for a period of three years. The up-to-date public hall was very nicely decorated for the occasion and the Waitaha settlers turned out in full force. Alotor cars travelled from north and south to 'join in the celebrations, which helped to make a very successful opening. Dancing commenced at 9 n.iii. under tlie direction of Air Jack Trembath, the music being supplied by Ali.sses AleAlillan and Ellis. Extras were rendered by Air P. Crough and Miss Roxborough. During the evening items were given by Air AfeAlillan (song) ; Air C. Wright (song) and Afr P. Crough (violin solo). Afr J. Anderson was in charge of the light refreshments.

Just before the large assemblage sal down to the nicely laid out supper, AH AY. Ellis (Chairman of the Cheese Factory) extended a most hearty welcome to all those that came to join in their party that night and said how pleased they were to bo again re-opening their Factory, as it would be the second occasion it had been done. He assured them that it would be open for all time after this as he said that there was no place like Home S"cet Home. You always got the best treatment and once more whatever was in a cooperative factory the suppliers received. The Chairman then extended a most hearty welcome to their manager, Afr McCall uni.

At the request of the Chairman and other settlors, Air Tom O’Neil, of Kokatnlii was invited to say a few words. Mr O’Neil said he was very pleased to ho able to join in the celebrations at the reopening of their factory as he claimed to lie a AA’aitalia-ife as a few years ago he was a settler in that- district and was keen to see Wnitalia enjoying prosperity. He pointed out the advantage of keeping the factory in their own district and pulling unanimously together ho was sure they would be successful.

Air ,T. Fleming (Chairman of Kokatahi Dairy Company) was also invited to sav a few words. Air Fleming thanked the directors of the AVaitahadiee.se Factory for the very cordial invitation extended to his company and also apologised for absent directors, but assured them they were with them tonight in their hearts and wished them every success. He congratulated them on the stand they have taken as a factory was a great asset to a district as long as it was run on co-operative lines. He also pointed out the necessity to bring a super fine quality of ' cream to the factory as a super-fine butter or cheese always commanded a good price and demand. He said that through his directors, manager and suppliers co-operating and having good quality cream the manager of Kokatahi factory was able to obtain an average grade of 1)3 points for the season. He also advised the suppliers to trust and have confidence in their manager because once they lost confidence things would not run smoothjlv. He pointed out that the prospects for the coining season wore looking bright as one cheese factory had sold the whole of its output at 9d per lb. which would work out at Is 84d for butter. He again wished them success and properity in the reopening of the cheese factory

After supper dancing was continued till 53 n.m. every one voting the whole proceedings a very great success.
