WHERE THE MONEY GOES
DAIRY BOARD FINANCE. The annual statement of accounts just issued by the New Zealand Dairy Produce Control Board again shows heavy administration expenses. The total expenses, irrespective of those incurred in advertising, for the year ending July 31, were £54,516. Of this amount considerably more than half has gone in direct payment ■to members of the board and the staff for services rendered, and for travelling expenses. Just how much is paid individually to members ol the board for travelling to and lrom the 1 nited Kingdom does not appear, but a significant- item is the payment of £1344 as income tax to members of the London Agency. Expenses of niatiojxoiiiont in <Oll- - with the London office are set down separately at £22.186. and this does not include the subtly of a chief inspector from Britain to New Zealand and back, which was included in the item "shipping inspection, £3122”. For the privilege of auditing the accounts of the Tooley Street firms, who acted as agents for the board, no less a sum than £4OOO was paid whilst an amount of £2706 was used to subsidise the -‘Exporter.’’ The statement of advertising expenses shows an expenditure of just over £20,000.
