CORRUPT PRACTICES FINE,
(Recnived this day at 10.15 a.m.) NEW YORK, Oct. 12. Mncor Duvall, of Indianopolis, convicted of violating the State Corrupt Practise Law, cabled on Sept. 9th, was sentenced to 30 days’ gaol, fined a thousand dollars and disfranchised for four years. Duvall’s lawyers immediately appealed to the State Supreme Court which automatically secures a stay of execution of the sentence and permits Duvall’s release on bail. TO CONQUER EVEREST NEW YORK, Aug. 12. To conquer A loan t Everest by airplane is the plan of Capt. John Noel of the Royal Geographical Society, London. “A man can be lowered,” be says, “by a rope from a plane flying six miles high. I am willing to be the man.” He says food supplies for Everest can be dropped there, and then the adventurer would he lowered, and using liquid oxygen would walk down the mountain. Two of Noel’s men in the last attempt reached within 600 feet of the summit when they were lost.
