A national campaign is announced here in an effort to raise thirty million dollars for the completion of the Washington Cathedral and the stimulation o f"tbe religious life of the entire country through the dissimulation of Christian teaching. General Pershing is Chairman of the national committee and Mr Mellon (Secretary to the Treasury) is treasurer. George Pepper, a Senator from Pennyslvania, who is Chairman of the Executive said the present plan in spirit proposes a Government outlay of one hundred million dollars for tli,e purpose of building a beautiful capital will create an enduring memorial to the national spirit and devotion.' It will ineude a preachers’ college, boys’ and girls’ schools and theological library containing 20,000 volume. The building will afford standing room for 27,000 persons,. it will be situated on the highest point in Washington, on the top of Mount St. Albon. The entire project is planned to centralise and unify religious activities organised with the national and international viewpoint similar to American economic administrative acencies.

EXCHANGED WIVES. SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 30.

Wendell Baxter and Lester Lorensen lived on opposite sides of the street, but attended the same parties. They became so friendly that tliey swapped wives over the week-ends.

This morning Lorensen’s wife declined to return to her husband, and the men fought with their lists in the middle of tlie street. Baxter was hit in the solar plexus and he fell dead.
