At the conference at Blackpool of the British Labour Party, a proposal for a. surtax on incomes of over five hundred per annum was adopted by a large majority. Air Bovin said: “ Alany of the difficulties of the Trades Union leaders aro due to the millstone of taxation on the neck of industry. You can talk as high faultin’ as you like when works are closing down, and work is going to other countries—for God’s sake do something to save industry, work and wages! Have a surtax or a capital levy; but, unless you tackle the credit system itself, you won’t bo rid of the tremendous debt that is banging oil industry. There must be one great national effort to get out of pawn! ” LONDON, Oct. G. At the Britsili Labour Party’s Conference at Blackpool, the leader, Air Ramsay AlacDonald said: “Before there is a revision of the Versailles Treaty, we must ensure that we are safe from the danger of war.” He continued: “I say to our Russian colleagues, ‘ Abandon your imperialist ideas! Imperialism is an attribute, not only of Toryism, but also of revolution! ’ ”
