I (Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.) RADIO CONFER ENcrj. WASHINGTON, Oct. 7. The first committee meeting of flic Board of Officers of the International Radio Conference named Mr Brown (Vice-Chairman of the Committee on Tariffs World Court) and Count Guiseppe Guenie, Italian Delegate for appointment as Chairman. Other British Delegates given Committee appointments were: Mr A. J. Johnstone (Canada) Vice-Chairman of the Convention Committee; T. Purvis (Britain) Chairman of General Regulation Committee.
Judging by converations among the clelegates there seems a possibility of a coalition of British, French and German delegates to wrest- control of the Conference from the now largely dominating U.S. delegation. The British. it is understood, prefer a postponement until the 1939 Brussels Conference of consideration of the so-call-ed Cortina Report, in which the International Committee lias advocated a reduction of the standardisation of all code words to five letters. Britain believes the present ten letter word limits should remain, but Mr Hoovor lias moved that a special section of the delegates determine whether the Conference should act on the Cortina Report. Therefore Britain is believed to be preparing a counter-proposal, under which she will support certain French and German proposals in return for their help with the Cortina Report.
