THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, Oct. 7. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. The resignation of Hon. Hall-Jones by effluxion of time and reappointment for a further term was notified by Govern or-General’ s message. lion. Hall-Jones was formerly sworn in. Sir T. 3lacKenzie gave notice to ask whether tho question of time payments and general credit system had been brought under the notice of the Government and if so lias it been able to give the subject serious consideration, "in order that some remedy may be proposed for the protection of the trading community and public. Land for Settlements Amendment Bill, Fungicides and Insecticides Bill, Dangerous Drugs Bill; Peel Forest Amendment Bill and New Zealand Institute of Horticulture Bill were put through the committal stage and passed without amendment. The Council adjourned at 4.40 p.m. until to-morrow.
THE HOUSE. The House was occupied all day discussing the Customs Amendment Bill in committee. The short title was agreed to at 12.30 a.m., uhen the House l'Qse till 2.30 p.m.
