PARLIAMENTARY.
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.) THE COUNCIL. WELLINGTON, Oct. 5. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.m. to-day.
Mr Speaker was unavoidably absent, and after formal business, the Council rose at 2.32 until 8 p.m. On resumption in the evening, the Council passed a motion by Hon G. M. Thomson, expressing the opinion that the survey of the coastal waters of the Dominion by means of the sonic depth finders should be undertaken by the Government- in the interests of the fishing industry. The Dangerous Drugs Bill, Peel Forest Amendment Bill and the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture Bill were read a second time.
The Counci adjourned at 9.40 p.m. until to-morrow. THE HOUSE. In the House the Minister of Customs moved the second reading of the Customs Amendment Bill embodying the new tariff which was agreed to after a toil hours’ debate. At 3.30 a.in. the House rose till 8.30 p.m. to-day.
