MYSTERY FLIGHT ACROSS

ATLANTIC.

(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.)

BERLIN, Oct. 4

A German trans-Atlantic seaplane came down at Schellingwonde, after making, a flight of 135 miles. It was then revealed that this is Germany’s mystery flight, for which a long preparation has been made secretly on an isolated island in the North Sea, the purpose being to wipe out the Biemen ” and “Europa” disappointments. The machine used was the “ Junker D. 1230 ” piloted by Airmen Loose and Starke, and carrying also a wireless operator and a mechanic. The plane rose successfully. The route planned was via Lisbon, the Azores Islands and Harbour Grace to New York. It is reported that the Severn Aviation Company and the Hamburg-Anierika line were jointly backers of the project.

DUTCH ENTERPRISE. LONDON, Oct. 4. The Hague correspondent of the “Times” says: The opening of an air service between Holland and the East Indies, as a link of a Britain-to-Aus-•tralia regular service, is now merely a question of ground organisation and negotiation with the countries to be flown over. An official of the Royal Dutch Air •Service is en route to Java. He said that he hoped the service would be commenced in about a year.
