(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association. IRISH OATH FOR ALULA. LONDON, Oct. 3. The “Times” Dublin correspondent says that the Roman Catholic Hierarchy lias recently issued a pastoral denouncing perjury. It lias attracted widespread attention. “ But it is pointed out (says the correspondent) that it cannot undo the recent elections at -which 441,000 citizens voted for the Party which regards the oath of allegiance as being an empty formula of no practical importance. This position now affects the fifty-seven elected Republicans, who will be required to take the oath next week as tho condition of their entering the Dail Eireann. It is anticipated that all of them will repeat the oath as an empty formula. Air P. Rutledge, a prominent Do A aleraite, in a speech, said that their party demanded peace, and, recognising that Ireland should master its own affairs without iuterfeience from outside. Mr De Valera’s Party refused to recognise any obligation with England as binding.
