CAR GO'US OYER BANK. DUNEDIN, October 3
A motor accident occurred last evening when AYilliam AA'atsun, aged 7(5. a resident of Brighton, who was driving a car, ran over a bank at Kuri Basil. He received injuries which terminated fatally. AA'atson was found on the beach in a serious condition, lie was at oiu-e brought to the Dunedin hospital, placed do the dangerously ill list, and rereived medical attention. but he did not improve, and lie died at 10.45 p.m. Only meagre details are yet available.
LEVEL CROSSING SAIASH. CHRISTCHURCH, Oct. 3. Another level crossing smash, the fourth within the past fortnight, oecurved today at. the point where the Alain South Road crosses the railway at Hornby. An electric battery rail car, which runs to Little River, struck a heavy motor lorry. The rail car was damaged, hut not derailed, and continued its journey. The motor truck was badly damaged. No one was injured.
LAUNCH AITBSING. AUCKLAND, Oct. 3. Grave fears are entertained for the safety of Edwin Walker, an elderly retired farmer, of AA'aitangi, near Russell, who left Auckland on Monday. September 2fi, alone, in bis 33 foot launch “Speedwell.” No news lias been received of the craft for a week, and a search of the coast has so far been fruitless. A. radio message has boon broadcast- to all vessels in the vicinity to keep a look-out, It is thought possible (lie launch may he sheltering. AYRESTL7NG. WELLINGTON. Oct. 3. Ern Anderson, 13 stone filbs. professional champion of New Zealand, successfully defended his title to-night against, li. Hayden (Hawke’s Bay), who scaled 16st 17lbs. Hayden secured a fall within a minute of the start, but his condition petered out in the third round, and Anderson took the match h.v securing falls in the fourth and fifth rounds.
YOUNG .A lAN FOUND DECAYS’ED. DUNEDIN. Oct. 3. A young man. named Albert Robinson, aged 26 years, employed on the farm of Charles Clarke,-' of Lovells Flat, left about 0 a.m. on Saturday to feed horses and when he did not return to breakfast, a search was instituted, Ids body being found on Sunday afternoon in a creek near the homestead. Ail inquest was held yesterday before AD- Jasper Clark, J.P., actingCoroner, and a jury of four. A verdict was returned that deceased was found drowned in a pool in Lovells Flat Creek, but there was no evidence to show how he got into the water.
FOUND HANGING. OPOTTK!, Oct. 4. A Maori youth, Percy Hera AVipaki. employed by P. F. .Jennings, a farmer, of Opotiki. was found last evening in a milking shed hanging by the neck. There are no particulars of the motive. MINE TROUBLE. AUCKLAND, Oct. 4. 'l’he “Star’s” Huntly correspondent ires: A stop-work meeting, was hold at RoLowaru Alines to-day for a discussion of the death levy. The Manager warned the men to have their lamps out of the lamp-room in readiness for work by 8.15 a.m.. otherwise there would ho no work for to-day. The men returned to TTuntlv at 9 a.m.
