TIMARU, Sept. 28. At the Magistrate's Court- James Husband, aged 20, charged that on September 27th, at Claremont, he did unlawfully present a. loaded firearm at Detective Robert James Walker, when the latter interviewed him on another charge, accused pleaded guilty. Senior-Sergeant Gibson said accused had been suspected by Walker of forgery and the latter had consequently interviewed him. Accused agreed to accompany the detective, but when the latter’s hat blew off, accused bolted. The detective ultimately found him in a gully when Husband brandished a loaded gun and presented it at the detective, keeping me latter at bay for an hour. At the end of the period the detective was able to persuade accused to desist and accompany him quietly. The accused said he was out shooting rabbits. He did not know what made him load the weapon when ho was running away. He may have had rats. He had no intention of firing at the detective. Accused was sentenced to two months’ imprisonment on the first charge and on the charge of forgery was remanded till Friday.
