POLITICAL. WELLINGTON, Sept. 20. Tfc is officially announced bv Mr Davy, the Organiser, that a branch of the now Political Party has been formed here with an Executive and officers. Tile headquarters of (lie movement will he established here, and an office will he set up, after establishing branches in Christchurch and Dunedin. A Dominion Conference will he held in Wellington next month Air Davy describes the new Party as not 1111. offshoot of cither the Reform or the Libera! Parties, but as a combination of the most progressive of both parties. -Mr Davy speaks of there being a, larger desire on the part of both former Liberals and Reformers to join which lie describes as most heartening. MAIZE DUTY. WH.VKATANE, Sept. 21. Maize growers are greatly concerned at the proposal to reduce duty 011 imported maize. Apart from the European grower, a large Maori population here are almost entirely dependent on maize crops for a living. At the request of the growers the President of the Chamber of Commerce (R. L. Lens) I is proceeding to Wellington to-day to make representations to the Minister to have the present duties retained. The Chamber of Commerce passed a motion of protest against any reduction in the maize duties.
INQUEST VERDICT. CHRISTCHURCH. Sent. 21. A verdict of accidental death was returned to-day at the inquest on Frederick William VVooi'ley. a railwayline inspector, killed when an electric ear struck his trolley. The Coroner said Woolley apparently had plenty of time to get clear but apparently tried to got the trolley from the line. If added that in the public interest, the range of headlight on the electric ear should be extended.

TA.UMAR UNUT, Sept. 21. Alexander Walker, a local saddler is missing. He left home on -Monday evening and attended a meeting, fuller he was seen in various pai ls of the town and at the railway station. His relatives know nothing of his whereabouts. A SUICIDE. HK ETA HUN A. Sept, 21. R, d. Fraser, mill owner at Taiio, single, aged 28, shot himself through Hie. heart at 8 o'clock this morning. An inquest will be held to-morrow at Paliiatua.
COUNCIL AND ENGINEER. AUCKLAND. Sept, 2d. Over a thousand people besieged Mount Albert Borough Council Chamber during the Count il meeting last night and clamoured in vain for an audience with Mayor Rhodes, with the intention of demanding the reason for the dismissal of Engineer Cook, or failing that, the resignation of the Council. The Council declined and following a long discussion in the street and arrival of two policemen, the crowd dispersed. Tho Council decided to invite applications for the position of resident engineer. Trouble has arisen through the Council declining to give specific reasons for the engineer's dismissal.
ROAD BOARD SQUABBLE. AUCKLAND, Sept. 2i. Following upon a stormy interlude at a meeting of Mount Boskill Road Board last week, when Mr T. Davis was alleged to have been struct: in the face by another members, a resolution was proposed to ask the Chairman (E. F. Jones) to resign, the mover remarking that in view ot the recent regettnble incidents there should be drastic changes. The Chairman said be would not accept the motion and would not resign, adding—l do not care a rap for any member of the Board. He defied anyone to say lie bad ever done anything crooked. After a heated discussion. the Chairman adjourned the meeting foi a fortnight.
