BOXING
DEMPSEY AND TUNNEY. (Australian <fe N.Z. Coble Association.) NEW YORK, Sept. 18. A Chicago message states that with the fight four days away, both camps arc source of wild rumours. Bitter charges and counter-charges are all aired in the newspapers. There has been a report that Tunnev’s eye.was slightly cut in. a recent sparring session, and that it had become seriously inflamed, possibly impairing the sight of the eye. This has caused a drop in the odds favouring the champion to seven or six to five. The report was' not authenticated. A local newspaper to-day printed an alleged open letter from Dempsey, asking Tunney to explain an alleged secret, conference he had with gamblers previous to the Philadelphia light. Another alleged open, letter from the champion spurns the insinuation, and demands fair sportsmanship. Meantime, underlings in both of the camps hurl a vague insinuation that Dempsey planned, and skilfully executed a foul against Sharkey, and 'hat Tunney was offered a bribe to lie beaten by Dempsey, etc. The foregoing are virtually the only things in tlie way of news emanating from both training quarters.
