LEAGUE COUNCIL. (Received this day at 10.15 a.m.) GENEVA, Sept. 15. Belgium’s desire- as a signatory to the Locarno Pact to retain a seat on the Council of the League of Nations /"was thwarted by a failure to gain the Assembly’s two-third majority declaring eligibility for re-election. The voting was twenty-nine against nineteen in favour or three short of the requisite number. Canada’s chances of being chosen with Cuba, as American representatives is thus strengthened..
ELECTED TO LEAGUE COUNCIL. GENEVA, Sept. 15. Canada, Cuba and Finland have been elected to the Leaguo Council. GENEVA, Sept. 15. The Council election voting resulted:—Cuba, 43, Finland 33, Canada 26. The unsuccessful candidates were Greece 23, Portugal 16, Uruguay 3, Denmark 2, Siam, Switzerland, and Hayti one each. After the defeat of Belgium, AT. Vandervcldo similingly mounted the Tribune and declared he was certain the vote was based on the question of principle, and not directed against Belgium, adding that Belgium would continue to co-oporate wholeheartedly with the League in the interests of world peace. The Council in recognition of Belgium’s former services is requesting that she retain her seat on the Preparatory Disarmament Commission.
