NAPIER, Sent. 1-1. The first of the All Black Rugby Trials was played at Ale Lean Park, Napier. this aitcrnoon, when a combined East Coast team (Hawke's Bay, Poverty Bay and East Coast) defeated a W'uinarapa-Busli combination by 23 points to 8. The weather was glorious, hut the attendance was very poor.
The game was not a splendid interpretation of the code, the playering more keen on individual efforts tint]) concerted play. Al. Brownlie was most brilliant, participating in practically every try scored by the Coast team. He notched three all told and converted one other. Other Coast scorers were: Caulton (2), Corkhill and Swain and for AVairarapa—Bush, Hart and Tail scored, while Cundy converted the latter’s trv.
CANTER BURY’S WIN. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 14. South Canterbury Rugby Union has been agitating strenuously' since Canterbury won the Ranfurly Shield to have their match with Canterbury, today declared a shield match. The 1 nion still pressed the claim after the Now Zealand Union had ruled against it. The match was played to-day, and South Canterbury were completely overwhelmed, being beaten 47 points to 7by Canterbury team. The" ground wa.s fast. On the last two occasions the teams have -met, South Canterbury have been victorious, but to-day, after the first quarter of an hour, they never looked like it.' In the forwards the superiority of the Canterbury side was not very marked, but Canterbury backs buried the opposition, and had Robilliard and Lilburnc been on the field the score might have been even larger. South Canterbury’s score included an excellent potted goal by Fail-brother kicked from near the side line. The other score was a penalty goal, kicked by Strang, so that. Canterbury’s line was not- crossed.
TAIHAPE BEAT CENTRAL WAIPIJKURAU, Sept. 14. The final representative fixture of tlie season was played at AVaipukur.au this afternoon, Taihape Touring Team v. Central Hawke’s Bay, the former winning by 12—9. Smith scored three tries and Loughnane the other. For Central ,T. Smith scored; Joe King kicking two penalty goals for Central. For Saturday’s All Black trial game at Westport between Coast-Buller and Nolson-Bny-Mnrl'borough team. Jack King, of Hokitika is not available as full-hack, so Beard (Murchison) lias been selected to fill the vacancy. Tlie AVest Coast members will leave bv cars for AVestport to-morrow from Hokitika at n.m. and Grey Post Office at 1 p.m.

CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 14. The following team lias been chosen to represent Canterbury—South Canterbury—Ashburton combined against Otago—Southland—North Otago combined in the All Black trial match at Dunedin on September 28:—Full-back J. Harris (Canterbury); three-quart-ers, A. C. C. Robilliard, S. R, Carleton and J. Steel (all of Christchurch); five-eighths, S. Lilburne (Canterbury). A. Strang (South Canterpury) ; halfback, AY. C. Dailey (Canterbury); forwards, G. Scrimshaw (wing) ; J. T. Burrows, ,F. Clark, G. T. Alley, H. B. Godfrey, J. B. Jackson (all Canterbury). D. Stewart and X. AfcKenna (South Canterbury) ; reserve backs, J. R. Robilliard .(Ashburton); forward, J. Muthern (Ashburton). N. P. McGregor and R. T. Stewart were not available for the first trial match, and,A. AVhite is not available for the South African tour.
