T!ip Committee mot at flip Library at. 7 o’clock last evening. Present-: Messrs 0. .1. Evans (Chairman). Maloney, Niven, 11 pi nz, Duff and Morris. The minutes of the previous meeting wore confirmed. The Cliairman reported that an in memorinm card had been sent to Mr (‘•mlson’s family in -connection with their late bereavement, Mr Coulson having been Chairman of the Committee for many years. Ti was resolved to record a vote of sympathy on the minutes with Mr Coulson and family. Tsitt Ltd., reported regarding binding a valuhale set of Dickens’ work, ft. was resolved to have the set rebound. The Xew Zealand Libraries Conference reported the next gathering would be held in Christchurch in February, and invited representation. Tt was resolved to forward the animal subscription of Cl Is. It was decided to apply to Minos Department for annual publications and also for participation an the annual libraries’ vote for mining districts.

It was agreed on tiie report of the Selections Committee to add Scribner's Journal and Good Housekeeping to the regular magazine supply. A. -J. Barrowmnn. Ruatapu. forwarded a souvenir of the French warship, “Lut Mntine,” captured at Trafalgar, and same was handed to Mr .Niven to bo included in the Museum room with other souvenirs oi Trafalgar. Mr Bavrowmnn’s gift was acknowledged with a vote of thanks. The Chairman gave particulars of the 'Canterbury scheme for circulating library hooks and magazines in country districts, where residents in a centre sent a- combined subscription equalling £2 10s annually. At least five subscribers at 10s each was required, and a box of about .vj colonies was sent- out. to he returned when read, when a fresh supply of hooks was sent. It was decided to communicate with settlers interested in establishing t.he /convenience for their district, and if possible enlist the assistance of the resident- school teacher to lake charge of the books. Suitable reading matter could be included for children, and magazines also could bp included jin The parcel. Accounts to the amount of £33 l<s 4d were passed for payment. Two new subscribers were added for the month. The meeting concluded at 7.40 p.m.
