CRICKET

NEW ZEALAND TEAM AT HOME. against BEVESON GOVKII'S eleven. (Australian it N.Z. Cable Association.) (Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) RONDON. Sept. 12. The New Zealanders who have earned a. reputation as the, keenest, hard hitting exponents of the carefree amateur style, are making an extremely worthy and appropriate ending to their tour. They are opposed by a first class team, almost wholly amateurs. and there has been an exhibition of cricket for the sake cf tho game and not for the sake of the result. Blunt's innings is still talked of. He hit everything a terrific crack in the centre of tho hat, expertly clearing the head of cover point, hut grew more careless in the latter stages. Another masterpiece was Al ills’ exhibition of the best of the left hander’s style, particularly the pull to mid-wicket and glance to fine leg. He failed to add many to-day. In all he had eleven fours, and six threes. Lowry was indisposed and unable to hat. Tiie last, four wickets fell (|uickly and the innings in all lasted five and three-quarter hours. Leveson-Gower’s men started off well and made a good reply for a time, 100 coming up in 95 minutes, principally from Dawson and AVyatt’s hats, the former hitting seven fours. The hatting then slackened and at the tea adjournment four had gone for 156.

Shortly after resuming. Princess Mary’s arrival at 4.30 temporarily stopped play, the spectators rushing the ground to see her. This may have unsettled the batsmen as two more wickets fell at once. Dougins and F. Giilligan by stolid, slow batting stopped tho collapse taking 50 minutes to compile 37. and stumps were drawn with 6 wickets down for 207. The rate of scoring was a great contrast to the way the New Zealanders piled up runs on Saturday.
