WESTLAND COMPETITIONS SOCIETY
The Committee of the above met at 4.30 p.m. yesterday at the County Chambers. Present: Air D. J. Evans (President), ltevd. G. Knowles-Smith (Vice-President), Revd. J. W. Hayward ,Alesrs Richards, Sweney, Lynn, Stapleton, Conning and Alorris. Apology was made for the absence of Revd. Father Finnerty (Vice-President’). Air Alorris (Secretary) gave a general report on the late Competitions, showing an increase in entries from ISO to 311. The revenue in all departments excepting donations, increased, the total income being £132. A statement of accounts was read also, and disclosed an approximate surplus of £25, together with credit of about £SO carried forward from the previous year.
'l’lte report and statement were received and adopted, praise being passed on the all-round success attending the Competitions, which would he an ciuouniigemut to go on with even a more extensive programme next year. A number of matters arising out of the Competitions were brought up and discussed.
Votes of thanks were passed to the Bristol Piano Coy. for tho use of the piano, ami to the Pacific Lodge of Alasons for Ihe use of the organ, also to all ladies and gentlemen who had assisted the Society so freely in many ways. Special reference was made to tho great assistance given hv Aliss Daly, official accompanist, and Air J. AV. Alorris, lion secretary. It was decided to thank the Churches for the use of seats, also the civic authorities in the same direction.
Air Conning reported matters for the Competitions Social the following evening were all in hand, and a large gathering was anticipated.
Tn the course of a discussion as to dates for next year, it was decided to arrange for the, general meeting of subscribers to he hold on the 18th. O.tohor, so that the matter of dates couhl he well considered, the desire being to hold the Competitions at a time when they would not clash with school hours.
The Competitions Social will take place at the Soldiers’ Hall this evening, do'irs opening at 7.39 o’clock and the programme rnmmeneing at 8 o’clock. Badv vocalists and others are desired to 'bring their music.
