LIMERICK WINS AGAIN. SYDNEY. Sept. 11. Tattersall's races were held in fine, though cold weather. Showers overnight and in the forenoon, made the going on the liaiulwick track slightly heavy. Though New Zealand horses carried oil" fewer pikes than in the previous week at Warwick Farm, Limerick added to his reputation hv annexing the principal event, the Chelmsford' Stakes, in the easiest style, cantering home from the Now Zealand Derby candidate. Merry Mint. It was a convincing win, though Merry Mint ran well.
Although the New Zealanders ran In all events, none of the others were placed. Results:— Tramway Handicap.—Mulllubawn 7.7 1 ; Persuasion 8.8 2; Cmnon 7.2 3. Won by five lengths. Time 1.27. Chelmsford Stakes.—Limerick 9.0 1, Merry A hint 7.13 2, Son o’ -Mine 7.8 3.
Seven started. Genuine showed the way to Limerick. Commendation and Merry Mint-, who were together past the half mile. A little later Limerick shot to the front and led into the straight, two lengths ahead of Genuine, with Commendation. Merry Mint, and Son o’ Aline following in that order. Alerry ATint moved into second place, tut Limerick, taking things very fast, went on and cantered in two and a half lengths, ahead of Alerry Alint, who heat Son o’ Aline by one and a-half lengths. Commendation was fourth, three lengths away. Time 1.55.). Spring Handicap.—. Murillo 1, Tibbie 2, Valamita 3. Won by three lengths. Time 2.9:',. The “ Sun ” newspaper critic says:— “ Commendation was a great disappointment in the Chelmsford Stakes, and so far as he has gone in Sydney, lie has not lived up to expectations. Everybody expected him to extend Limerick. Far from that he was beaten at the turn. A month’s work will doubtless help him. hut he will need to improve considerably to he able to run out the severe 1) miles of the Caulfield, Cup. VALICARE RETIRES. SYDNEY, Sept. 11. The champion sprinter, Valicare, has been definitely retired from the turf and she goes to the stud.
