SOUTH ISLAND ROADING

WELLINGTON, Sept, 3. A deputation waited on the Gmanitr.ent at Wellington to-day relative In Snith Island reading. The deputation was composed of members of Parliament representing the South Island .
Al’r T. K. Y. S-e-cblon, who was spokesman for the deputation t-i the Prime Alinistor and the iiiistor of Public Works, urged the immediate completion. of tho road from Pariuga to Flanst, in connection with Hie movement from Otago to connect with the Westland road by way of the ITaast Pass route. Air Seddon stressed Hie necessity for tho road from tho settlers’ point of view apart altogether from tho road for tourist traffic, affording, as it- would a round trip of the South Island, besides giving Reeces to the wealth of forest growth to he traversed -by the road. Air Seddon pointed out also the hacking the roading project had from the Auckland. Otago. Canterbury and AA'ostland Lea-
gues, all of which wore working in unison to have the road connection provided by way of Hanst Pass, and so eventually circle the South Island.
The Prime Alinistor in reply, promised to have the matter looked into and would call for an estimate. From his personal knowledge of the route he was aware of the desirability of giving the settlers better road access, and with that in mind he was favorable to the prosecution of the work on practicable lines.
