It i pleasing to learn that Lake Kanieri is coming more into its own as a. holiday and pleasure resort. There is not any question as to Ilie asset value of Lake Kanieri to this district, blit it has never bee a made so such of as it should. The access nowadays that motor vehicles are tho vogue they are, is beyond what it ever was before, and a.s tho beauty of the lake, and tho surroundings are as enthralling, if, is rather remarkable- that more has nob been made of it. Indeed the same comment might ho pssed on all our beauty .spots, they all wear a neglected air so far as local developments a,re concerned. They are all remarkable for their beauty, and certainly need no artificial adornment, but facilities for moving about and seeing local rights undreamt of by those who only follow the beaten path, are lacking. Lake Kanieri offers special features for a round trip route by way of Kokatnhi district which would give one of the pleasantest motor drives in tho Dominion, There would he such a. variety of scene to traverse, and so much that i.s novel, that were tho route open, it would become one of tho best known features of a. visit to Westland. Strange, but true, the folk have never taken the interest they should in the endeavour to develop their sconce resorts. In other parts of the Dominion, nature i.s given artificial aid to create objects of interest. But here, with all the loveliness nature can lavish in mountain, bush lake and river gems crowded into a. corner, the gift, from the Gods is neglected. Walks and drives about Lake Kanieri are not difficult of accomplishment, for the locality affords many pleasant openings for development along those Hoes. But f r neglect to do, or even attempt, to do those filings, is a. charge the community has long been guilty of. Lake Kanieri in its pleasant, situation, with clear healthy surroundings, is indeed a resort- which slioud be in far more favor. But West Coast resorts generally have not had the favors extended by Government departments which other very expensive localities enjoy Comparisons would be odious in this instance, yet it is to be regretted that a territory such as this, with all the favors lavished by nature, is not more widely known and more regularly patronised.
