NEW ZEALAND TEAM AT HOME. WALKS V. NEW ZEALAND. A POOR SCORE. (Australian A N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON. Sept. 5. Tbe match with Wales was resumed in glorious weather. The New Zealanders failed very badly against the AVelsh howling which included Barnes, the once famous England howler who now plays for AVales. The hatting liefore lunch was extremely slow, the first six overs only yielding five runs. Alills’ first boundary stroke was missed which went over the slip’s head. He was in nearly two hours for his 18. ‘Lowry defended stubbornly for 70 minutes and was eventually caught at point off’ his glove. James brightened up the innings a. little, but none of the New Zealanders could stay long and the innings closed for the paltry total of 130, the result of three and three-quarter hours play. When AVales went in again Henderson met with the same success and quickly disposed of two men. The batsmen like the Non- Zealanders made very slow progress, Lowry unsettling them l>y frequent changes. Bats after hitting Henderson for two fours, lost his wicket in attempting a third. Riches and Walters slowly added 26 for the third wicket, helped by a disproportionate number of extras, ot which 19 have already been scored. Stumps were drawn ten minutes early owing to the light.
