SATURDAY’S GAMES. SENIORS. Kanieri 24. beat United 9. Excelsiors 18, heat Magpies 0. JUNIORS. Hiniu 3. Excelsior A. 3. KANIERI v UNITED. This game was played on Cass Square under good weather and ground conditions, on Saturday atternoon before a fair attendance, and resulted in a uin lor Kanieri by 24 points (8 tries) to it points (2 tries and a penalty goal). Play had not been in progress for' more than live minutes when from a scrum at United 25 line McCleary passed to Stevens to Taiiiui, who cut in and gave \Yel!s a neat pass that ho took and went over to score a pretty try. George took the shot- and also six others, but failed to enhance any of them. Tho play centred and then United’s attacked, two tree kicks being taken by Bell, but- each tailed. A nice run by Jamieson looked dangerous til! Pfahlert took him well, hut United continued to attack and Jamieson got away again. He was missed by Whiley but Pfahlert again reached him and brought him down. Then a penalty to United saw Bell prove successful with a neat kick. 3-3. Kanieri then attacked and from a passing run the ball went near United lino where Wells attempted to pick up and knocked on losing a certain try. From an ensuing scrum Fleming was penalised for picking up in the scrum and the line was cleared. Walton was prominent behind the scrum but was banging on too iniu:i. Pfahlert opened the p!av and sent the attack nearly Lome and lrom n scrum Kanieri backs handled and Wliiloy after a nice cut in passed to Taimii who scored in tlio corner. ! lie bell i then rang lor half-time frith Kanieri i leading by G to 3. In tho second spell the visitors appeared to tiro, and lvaiiieri hacks had easily the best of the play, though from a loose rush, United opened the , scoring, a. forward getting over. Soon after a nice passing run : saw McCleary, Stevens, 'I nimii and j Whiley handle, the last-named get- ■ ting over. The Kanieri team wore | running over the visitors at this stage ! and from a. passing run Pfahlert jug- ! gled with the hall behind him but ! managed to bold it and cutting in : prettily left the defence .standing to ! score a good try. George’s shot hit the post and went outside. The United team were- now well beaten mid from a line-out Mclntosh broke away in the. loose, and picking up smartly scored. Kanieri closed their scoring when a kick went into Hagers hands and he held it, passing out to Wells who made a smart dash and scored his third try. Bight on lime United forced the play into Kanieii quarters and from a loose rush saw the ball go over the line near the coin-

EXCELS 108 A. v. 111. MU. This junior game was well fought out on No 2 ground and resulted in a draw, a try (3 points) each. In the first, half there was no score, tho play being up and down the field both sides attacking in turn. Early in the second half Freitas scored for llimu as the result of fast following up of a penalty kick, while a little later Hughes scored for Excelsiors. Both sides made great- efforts to improve their score, but time came without any further addition, a draw resulting. Air Cutbush was referee.

AVilson and Clrivko "ere missing from the Afagpie team. Caldwell drew first blood for Excelsiors, and then Baron, Staines and A. King scored, none of tho tries being converted, tlio score at half-time being 12 to nil in Excelsior’s favour. In tho second spoil A. King scored two further unconverted trios, tlio final score being 18 to nil in Excelsiors’ favour. Mr W. Williams was referee.

The Auckland Rugby representatives had their eighth successive victory, by defeating Winrnrnpa, at Eden Park to-day, by 12 points to 3. The weather was fine, and the ground was in good order. The match was watched by 25.009 spectators. .MARLBOROUGH BEATEN. BLENHEIM, Sept. 3. Wellington B defeated Marlborough to-day in good weather by 22 to G. TIMARU, Sept. 3. 11l the representative fixture, Ashburton v. South Canterbury, the latter won by 24 to 9. The game was characterised by fast open play.
GOLDEN BAY BEATEN. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 3. Canterbury second fifteen met the Golden Bay-Motueka team on Lancaster Park to-day. Canterbury won by 33 points to 5. The visitors held the local team at intervals during the first spell, and several times missed tries by narrow margins. HAWKE’S BAY VICTORY. NAPIER, Sept. 3. In perfect- weather, before an attendance of about six thousand Hawke’s Bay to-day defeated Canterbury by 11 points to 8 at McLean Park, Napier. The play was of a close and hard nature, and the game was fast all through’. Hawke’s Bay forwards over-shadow-ed their opponents, especially in the loose work, but the Canterbury backs were at all times dangerous. Four players were obliged to leave the field on account of injuries. Tries for the winners were scored by Huxtable, Corkhill nnd Conrad, Grenside converting one try. For the losers Steel and Scrimshaw scored tries, Lilburne converting the former’s try. r
