GENEVA, Sept. 2. The Council of the League of Nations met to-day and considered the Danzig question. The first public meeting of the League Council has been fixed for this morning. ft is rumoured that Sir Austen

Chamberlain and AL Briand are in favour of the postponement .of the Preparatory Commission on ,Disarmament, which is fixed for November. It is known, however, that Herr Stresemann (German Foreign Minister) intends to speak at the League Assembly on the necessity for accelerating the work oil general disarmament in conformity with the pledges of the Treaty of Versailles.

The League of Nations Council met privately under tho presidency of Senor A'illegas. of Chili. The discussion was an animated one. It related to Danzig affairs, including Danzig City’s demand for the removal of a Polish munitions depot from AVesterplatte. and the Polish naval harbour. AL Politis, the Greek representative on the League Assembly, lias made it known that Greece is seeking the nonpermaiient seat on the Council of the League that has been vacated by Czecho-Slovakia. There are three other claimants, namely Finland, Denmark and Portugal. Sir Otto Niemever was elected Chairman of the League’s Finance Commit-* tee.
