(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. HELP FOR STRIKERS. SYDNEY, Sept. 1. Tho New South Wales State Council, and the Australian Railways Union sent £2OO sterling to assist the Queensland Railway Strikers. The Council carried a. motion, declaring the threat of Premier McCormack “stamps him as al political thug’’ and they pledged themselves to support the men, and if tho threat was carried out, to- do all in their power to prevent the handling of Queensland trnffie. BRISBANE, Sept. 1. The Australian Workers’ Union decided if the railway trouble is not settled by Saturday, the positions of the railwaymen who have been dismissed by the Premier’s ultimatum, will 1)0 declared black anil . all railwnymen will refuse to fill them or work in communication with those filling them,. Tho Rockhampton Chamber of Commerce endorsed the action of the Premier and promised practical support to prevent a dislocation of transport facilities. The Premier attended a lengthy meeting of Queensland Central Executive and placed the issue clearly before the meeting. He emphasised tho railway commissioners, not the union, should control the railways. When the meeting dispersed one prominent union official said the prospects of a settlement were bright. It is considered likely the Board of Trade will be asked to intervene and arrange a compromise. Between 140 and 150 men hnvo now been dismissed for refusing duty.
