MATAINUI NOTES

(From A Correspondent.) Owing to the decline in the population of Oknrito Constable Moody has boon transferred to the progressive district of Mnfninui. With his wife and family he arrived here during the week. The much talked of. coming event, is the Spinsters and Bachelors Ball, which is to take place in the Matainui Public Hall on September Bth. and which threatens to eclipse any other function of its kind. Good orchestra, good supper, efficient M.C.. and a strong and well organised committee intend to give patrons (of which there promises to be a good influx) a most enjoyable evening.

The lambiseason now being here, the fanners are very busy attending to the additions of their flocks. So far the weather has proved most favourable. Mr H. X. Adamson has returned home after a most successful sale at Arab ura. Mr Henry Meharrv, who has been visiting his relatives in Kokatahi and Christehureh. has now returned to his farm. Aliss K. Butler has now returned home having spent a most pleasant holiday during National week in Christchurch. The usual weekly euchre tournament was held here last Saturday evening, being most sueeesstul as the atten,lance eclipsed any of the previous tournaments. The prize winners were Mrs J. Oloher and Mr I. Walshc. After a pleasant honeymoon. .Mr and Airs Douglas returned home last week. Mr AY. Chinn (.iunr), who is still an inmate of the Westland Hospital, is recovering slowly. AYhile playing football last week at schol. Alaster Bat Nolan had the misfortune to break his leg. He is now in the West laud Hospital where he is progressing favourably.
