BERLIN, Aug. 23. Bv tlio Defence Minister’s order, mebers of armed forces must not fly the Imperial flag unless the Republi-. can black, red and gold, is alongside it. This follows the Prussian Government’s order that public buildings must fly the Republican flag on Constitution Day, which revived the flag controversy that caused Luther’s downfall last year. The municipality added fuel to the flames by ordering the ci'l authorities to Ixivcott hotels which refuse to fly tile __ Republican flag. This resulted in the Olier burgomaster declining an invitation toy dinner. Nationalist resentment against Geesler’s order was only reduced by the knowledge that Hindenburg desires a settlement.
