The weekly euchre tournament conducted by the E.S.A. at the Soldiers’ Hall takes place to-night, play commencing at 8 o’clock. With the attractive prizes there should be a large attendance.

A further supply of ova for the Lake Kanicri hatchery is <1 no to-night from Invercargill. It (onsist.s of 150,060 brown trout ova, and will be taken out and laid down at the hatchery tomorrow morning. A supply of rainbow trout ova from Christe.liurcli, is expected in about three weeks’ time, and will be hatched out also at Lake Kanicri, where the hatchery is now in use again.

Yc Okie Tyine Dance in the Soldiers’ Hall last evening attracted an overflowing attendance and was a very successful gathering from every point of view. Ross’ Orchestra .supplied capital music, introducing many old time melodies. Messrs C. Illcach and J. J. Breeze had charge oi the flooi and dancing went merrily, many of the old dances being reintroduced with decided success. The ladies’ committee had provided a plentiful supper, and the floor was kept busily engaged to an earlv hour.

Advice was received this morning of the death at Christchurch of Mr Thomas Meliarry, a former wei’l known settler of Kokatahi. The deceased was a member of tbe well known Kokatahi family and had resided in Upper Kokatahi for about 50 years, when ho retired some few years ago and removed to Christchurch where lie has resided ever since with a married daughter. A sterling settler bis death will be deplored by a wide circle of friends. He leaves one son (Mr Alex Meliarry. of Kokatahi) and one daughter (Mrs "Will. Meliarry, of Riccartoii). -Mr Robert Mchary and Mr James .Meliarry sen., both well known Kokatahi settlers are brothers, while there are many other relatives through the district. The remains are being brought from Christchurch and tin* funeral will take place to Hokitika cemetery on Saturday at an hour to be notified to-morrow.
