RY TKr.ECP.VeiI CRESS ASSN., COI-YKIOIIT. RINGING-IN CHARGE. SYDNEY. Aug. 22. At the Dailinghurst Sessions to-day the trial eommeiiced of .McCarthy and Mattcrson, in connection with the charge of ringing-in a mare named Promenade as Gathered Gold, on July 20. In a statement in the dock. Matterson said the maro was Gathered Gold. He had bred her, and sin- had never been outside Australia. McCarthy, in a statement, said that it was ridiculous for the prosecution to suggest that the mare Promenade had been rung in on Australian courses. He added that if Gathered Gold were really Promenade, it would have been impossible to stop her from winning races, as her time for the mile was 2.11, whilst Gathered Gobi, when she won her bo.-t race, did the mile in 2.24. The ease was adjourned.
