MAORIS DEFEAT OTAGO. DUNEDIN. Aug. 17

On a muddy ground the Maori touring team lieat Otago at Carisbroot this afternoon by .11 points to 5.

'The Maoris, under the circumstances, played a really line game. Their footwork was clever, and the hacks handled tile heavy ball in spectacular fashion. AVhenever a movement broke down there was someone to cover the mistake, and their elusive running continually had the Bines in trouble. Tho forwards played a hard battling game, packing well. and following tip fast. Among the backs Pelham (centre), and Harrison (half-back) were outstanding, and Crawford and J. Gcmmoll were the best of the forwards.

The Otago side, which included several country players, and others who were being tried for the touring team, made an unimpressive showing, and were defending during most of the game. Heazelwood and Bon On Hander in the hacks, and I lore in the torwards. were the best.

Otago drew first blood, Dougherty scoring in a forward rush, and Heazlewood converting. The Maoris responded with spectacular tries by Enhvasscr, Cranford, and Wineera, Crawford eonveting one. There was no score in ;he second spell.
