the council. WELLINGTON, Aug. 17. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 p.iu. Ike Council passed a motion of sympathy with Hon. Rikihana, who was granted fourteen days leave of absence on account of the death of his wife. ■St. Peter’s Parish Endowment Fund Bill was read a second time. Sir T. MacKonzie moved that ill view of the great risk pedestrians are constantly exposed to through reckless driving of motor vehicles. together with the alarming increase of fatalities, the Council is of opinion that the laws dealing, with such matters require amending in order that reasonable protection may be provided for tile people. After a brief debate the motion was carried. Hon. Newman withdrew liis motion in regard to remission of customs duty oil maize and other food products necessary for the economical operation of the pig products export industry. The Council adjourned at Moo p.ni. until Wednesday next.
