THOUGHTS FOR THE TIMES

Tun Wakes Piioiilem. Everyone who has the ability to think for himself is quite satisfied that a system which is continually iucreas* ing wages without some equivalent quid pro quo must ultimately throw thousands out of work. There is now no other business brought before the Arbitration Court but applications for increase of wages—there seems to he no question between employers and their employees but that ot wages and hours. No offer is ever made to fix wages by results, nor is the question ever considered as to the luture of those who obtain the increase, should the employer be unable to pay the amount ordered by the Court. —Mercantile Gazette.
