WESTLAND HOSPITAL BOARD
TUESDAY, AUGUST Ifith. The Board met at 8.15 p.m.. Present: Messrs J. J. Breeze (Chairman), G. Davidson, R. Meharry. T. W. Duff. M. Keenan, E. A. Wells, and W. Jeffries. Apologies were made for tile absence of Messrs Morel and Spiers. The minutes were confirmed and outward eorresjondence approved. MOTION OF SYMPATHY. The Chairman moved that the Board convey to Mr Coulson and family its deep sympathy in the sad loss they had sustained by the death of Mr*
Coulson. Mr Coulson was a former member of tho Board, and lie deeply regretted tho loss they had sustained. Mr Jeffries seconded the motion, tributing tho very valuable services Mrs Coulson had rendered. Mr Davidson supported specially tributing the work of Mrs Coulson during the influenza epidemic. j The motion was carried in silence, members standing. ( INWARD CORRESPONDENCE.
From Hon. the Premier, Wellington, acknowledging letter from Board in reference to Maori patients payments.—Received.
From Department of Health in connection with same matter stating that the Native Department had advised that tliev were unable to deduct moneys due to Maoris.—Received. From Same in reference to representations made on the same subject by the Hospitals Boards Association Con ferenee.—-Received.
From same in reference to procedure for obtaining loans.— Received. From same in reference to payment of industrial workers fees.—Received.
From Harbour Boards Association forwarding a number of circular letters on various matters.—Received. From Audit -Office. Wellington, ieturning balance sheet certified to, with an exception that the hank overdraft exceeded the limit allowed by law. and asking that stens he taken to reduce the amount within the limits of the Act. —Received; to be attended to.
From Government Statistician. Wellington. notifying the population of the district as follows: —W ext land County, 4235; Hokitika Borough, 2-130; Kuniara Borough, 525; Ross Borough 500; total /GUO.—Received. .From Superintendent- of National Provident Board in reference to retirement of an official.—Received; copy to bo sent, to Dr Baird tor a reply. From North Canterbury Board in reference' to charges made lor baetcro-
logical examinations.—Received. From Bailor Board enquiring ns to arrangements in nurses quarters.—Received. From N. Wylie, applying for annual leave.—Received and request granted. REPORTS. The House Committee reported some sand was required and that the Matron desired to acknowledge a number of gifts.—Received. Accounts amounting to £40!) Gs 8d wore passed for payment. From Surgeon Superintendent reporting in hospital Ist July;—23 males, 12 females, 35; admitted during moutii. 18 males. 10 females; total treated 41 males. 22 males, 63; discharged cured. 17 males 8 females: died. 1 male: total discharged. 20; remaining in hospital 31st July, 23 males, 14 females, total 37 ; in hospital for two months or mere. 11 males, 7 females, 18.—Received. The Treasurer reported receipts. £032 12s Id ; payments, £9Bl 14s 2d ; debit balance. £Ol2 17s Gd.—Received. The tenders of J. Cameron and P. Covle for cartage were accepted.
