A SERIOUS VISITATION
AT WESTPORT. 3Y TELEGRAPH —PKESS ASSN., COPYRIGHT. WESTPORT, Aug. 11. Westport was visited with a severe electrical disturbance early tl#| morning. The centre of the storm appeared to !>e over the town. The storm started at 2 a.nt. with ominous thunder and at 2.45 vivid flashes followed, and immediately after a deafening roar. The whole town was shaken, especially the portion adjacent to the waterfront. The thunder lasted two hours, with hardly a break. It was accompanied with torrential rain and a howling wind. Telephone lines are down. Cape Foul wind was visited by a cyclone which started at 2.45, and in a few minutes the schoolhou.se was completely demolished, only the piles remaining. Tile public hall and hotel were badly damaged, the front being blown away. The railway sheds collapsed. burying the engine. Six by one timber was hurled aliout like arrows. sticking fast in the ground or the buildings. Nobody was hurt. It is contended the storm is the worst experienced for man v vears.
