WAIT ANGI RIVER EROSION
Afr Seddon, AFP., lias received the following further reply from the Alinister of Public Works regarding the above matter:— “ In continuation of my interim reply of your letter of the 13th July, I have now to advise you that the locality of the Waitangi erosion was again inspected on the 11th July when it was found that the position had slighti’y improved since the previous inspection the result of which was set out ill my letter to you dated I.3th ultimo.
“ From the latest report received it appears that the south bank of the river below the bridge is beaching up and the river is tending to move towards the northern hank, and the District Engineer at Groymuoth is of tiie opinion that, with a lew halt floods, the- river will cut a new channel and work away Imm the south hank with the result, that the situation in so far as tlm flooding of Walsh’s section is concerned will he relieved.
“ Regarding the public road leading past Air Walsh’s home, it is not anticipated that any damage will he done to ihi- hv Hoods, the only road in the locality likely to he damaged being Richardson Hoad. In connection with this road I advised you ill my previous letter that the question of a Government grant for protective works would receive consideration on the current year’s estimates, and you may rest assured that tlm matter will bfr very carefully considered when the Estimates are before me.”
