TIMBER WORKERS
1 AfPOR-TANT I!F.SOLUTH >XS. (Hr Telegraph— For Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 4. The N.Z. Timber Workers’ Federation, in conference here to-day, decided to increase the capitation lees by one shilling per member, so as to provide funds for the organisation of the North Island timber workers and of the unemployed, through the Alliance of Labour.
The Conference resolved to urge the Unions to embody in their awards a clause making compulsory the provision of an ambuVance chest by rite employers. It was decided to request tbe Government to appoint two practical workers from the Federation, for both Islands, to insta) all wood working machinery in an endeavour to minimise accidents.
That the Government he urged to at once to bring about a reciprocal arrangement in regard to tbe Workers’ Compensation Act. and that it be amended so as to make provision for full compensation in tbe event of a. worker being killed while on the property of bis employer, so long as it is during working hours, whether lie is doing the actual work that he is engaged to perform or otherwise. That the second schedule of the Workers’ Compensation Act be amended to provide for compensation or partial loss, which is not provided for, ill the present act. and which is to be paid for on a pro rata basis. That the Workers’ Compensation Act be amended to allow of reasonable hospital medical expenses up to £25 where'necessary in ease of accidents. That tbe Government be urged to take over all tbe insurance risks under the Workers’ Compensation Act with a view to the reduction of the premium.
