SUPREME COURT.
(By Telegraph—Per Press Association. PALMERSTON X.,’ Aug. 1. At the Court William James Cox was charged with stealing or alternatively receiving four cheques valued at nearly fifteen pounds, the sum of sixteen, pounds the property of Charles Henry Coley also obtaining good by fraud at Feild.ing. Accused pleaded guilty to the latter charge and not guilty to the first. Outlining the case the Crown Prosecutor said accused was introduced to Airs Coley by a friend and adjourned to an hotel where after partaking of drinks, Airs Coley later found the cheques and money missing. Accused went on to Feilding with a female companion, another person altogether, and was apprehended alter accused had attempted to pass one ol the cheques in his possession. The other stolen cheques were found. Accused from the box denied the theft of the cheques. The jury returned a. verdict of guilty without retiring. Accused who had a lengthy list "as sentenced to two years’ and declared an habitual Criminal. DUNED IN j Aug. ’2. John. Frederick Hninmerley, on a charge of using indecent language in High Street, was found guilty in the Supremo Cqurt, before Afr Justice ,S>m. The jury recommended mercy. Sentence was deferred till Afonday.^ Thos. Alexander Tobin and Edward Tobin, charged with breaking an entering a warehouse, were found not guilty before Air Justice Sim. DUNEDIN, Aug. 3. At the Supreme Court, ’1 homas Butler charged with carrying on business of a bookmaker was found not guilty.
