FOOT AND MOUTH DISEASE.
WEI.IJXOTOX, July 27. The Director of Agriiultimo (Doctor (’. .1. Reakes) gave to the Xew Zealand Fanners' Union Conference to-day, an assurance that every precaution was being taken against the introduction of foot and mouth disease into Xew Zealand. The risk of infection through any seed imported from continental countries in which foot and mouth disease was prevalent, was. to sav the least, very slight indeed. A plant couldn’t become infected as the result of the seeding having the disease. The seed was only a mechanical conveyance. The authorities at Home had decided on the sterilisation of (hay and straw before its being used for packing, and lie had reason to believe that the work was being carried out efficiently and satisfactorily.
