(Received this day at 9.30 a.m.) NEAV YORK. July 2G. A\ arfare, which has developed among the world’s large oil companies over the question of dealing with the Soviet, intensified when Sir Henry Deterbinge (managing director of the Royaf Dutch and Shell group issued a statement through New York representatives, attacking the policy of the Standard Oil, New York and Vacuum Oil Coy’s, which have contracts under which they purchase oil from Russia. The Standard Oil Co. of New Jersey' recently announced it would not deal with the Soviets, and the Royal Dutch and Shell had agreed to a joint policy of not dealing with Russia until the oil owners were compensated. Deterbinge declared the purchase of Russian oil by the American companies was not j only contrary to the best interests of humanity and trade honesty, but was bound to lend to tbe replacement of American oil. of which there was at present a large over production. AValter Teagle (president of the Standard Oil, New Jersey), has sailed for Europe to persuade Deterbinge to abandon any plans for retaliation which it is believed might mean the invasion of American terrltorv.
