A Special Committee was set up on the motion of Ron. Noswortliv to consider a petition presented to Parliament asking for an investigation into the government of Samoa. A. hill to alter the name of the New ZeaiViml Agricultural College at Palmerston North to “ Massey Agricultural College ” was introduced by Governor's message.

A hill to give State support to Lincoln Agricultural College, was also introduced by Governor’s message. The Minister stated it was intended to give a grant of £IO.OOO towards the building fund and £3,700 annually towards the teaching fund. Both hills were rend a first time. The Prime Minister moved that the House go into committee on the Samoan Amendment Bill and that urgency he granted in order that it he put through ali" stages at that sitting. This latter part of the motion was contested by the Labour Party, on the ground that there was no urgency, v-n division the motion was agreed to by 48 to 12. The House went into committee at 1 p.m. and Clause One was not passed until 2.30 a.m.. when it was agreed to on division by 12 to 14. and a clause amendment, moved by the Leader of the Opposition was defeated by 44 to 14.
