MURCHISON OIL COY
A FAVOURABLE REPORT. The Murchison Oil Company, Auckland, has received the following report from its geologist, Air John Spoil, cor: “The condition at the Mangles River bore would appear to he consistently improving. The presence of light filtered oil in the well often and usually precedes the release of heavier and unfiltered oil. The insidious and giTidual migrations Upwards ■is responsible for tlie lightness of the oil. When the next thick hod of por- ! oils sandstone is pierced by the drill it should prove to be oil-bearing. Nothing has occurred that would detract from the extremely favourable opinion I expressed when reporting on the last oil occurrence in the bore on June 10. Cunningham Craig, in his work- on ’Oil Finding,’ states: ‘Oil is seldom struck without warning, light gas. shows of filtered oil. or shows of filtered oil and gas, often occur at some distance above the actual oilrock.’ This paragraph closely represents the writer’s opinion. A telegram dispatched by the drillei on Tuesday states that the bore is now at a depth of 2G12 feet in sandstone.
