EVENING DRESS BURGLAR
NEAV YORK, July 10.
Arrested after he had been wound eel in the ankle during a running tight with detectives at New London, Connecticut, James Monaghan, nlcK-named the “evening dress burglar 7 was found to ho wearing a. chain-steel shirt. He was wanted in connection with a recent big robbery here and was yesterday traced to New London. Monaghan used to dress in limitless evening clothes and make, his wav into millionaire homes during big social functions. He is alleged to have obtained over £250,000 by robberies carried out while tho owners were entertaining guests at dinner. His steel shirt probably saved his life, as it bore several bullet marks.

Over MOO convicts in Sing Sing prison witnessed the drowning of three youths in the Hudson River yesterday.
Although many of them pleaded with tears to be allowed to go to the rescue the armed guards held them hack with levelled rifles.
Sing Sing prison is situated at Ossining. New York, and one side fronts the Hudson, which is very wide at this part. AVatch towers, in which armed guards are stationed day and night, command the river.
