(Australi: n & N.Z. Cable Association.) LONDON, July 23. Dramatic scenes marked the eonelusion of the Guyot ease in Paris. The court was crowded with lashionably dressed women. Alaitre Alilhac. for the prosecution, painted a lurid picture of Guyot’s life. He recalled his love of gambling, which had led to the loss of over a million Danes, and his love ol intrigues, and also his final gamble to get rid of his mistress in order to marry his sister-in-law.
While counsel was making a fervent appeal Guyot rose and with out-stretch-ed arms cried : “1 didn’t wish to kill her. I am innocent l”
The foreman of the jury had just read the verdict, adding that there were no extenuating circumstances, wliei Guyot’s counsel again sprang up and announced that he had just rereived a telegram from a new witness —a Paris dressmaker —who claimed that she had passed the fatal motor car at the moment of Guyot’s fatal grip. The judge rejected an appeal for an adjournment, and then passed sentence of death hv the guillotine. The judge also awarded the victim’s mother 50,000 francs. Guyot was so shaken with sobbing that lie had to he carried out from the Court. An appeal is certain on the ground Hint new testimony i.s available.
