A conference will be held to-day-to endeavour to settle tlie strike at Chubb’s engineering works over the odaily hiring kystem. No extension of strike occurred during the week end. The Commonwealth Council of the Australian Engineering Union advised the men to continue work peacefully under the daily hiring, and not declare a strike until the employers attempt to enforce objectionable provisions . Minor strikes and trouble continue in. Victoria and South Australia.

Members of the Amalgamated Engineering Union employed at the Sunshine Harvester Works, numbering about one hundred, ceased work as a protest against the exemption of the firm from the provisions ol the award granting a 44-liour week to the engineering industry.
