GENERAL CABLES.

(By Telegraph—Per Press Association.)

EMPIRE SHOPPING. LONDON, July 17. Simultaneously with the London Empire shopping week, the British Advertising Exhibition is opening at Olympia. There are many fascinating features. One of special interest to tlie Dominions is the Empire Marketing Board display, wherein as a result of research inquiry, specimen labels are shown for Empire wide adoption. After familiarity with multi-coloured tins wherein Australia and New Zealand jams and fruit are imported it is almost revolutionary to find every proposed label white .with monochrome or hico!our semi-cubic designs describing the contents and country of origin. However it is the germ of a good idea, which coupVd with the Merchandise Marks Act, will protect the public buying canned goods with Imperial sounding names, oni’y to find that’what the label had not shown was that it came from California. ~
